The pinnacle of the Exodus saga, the 10th plague, was the slaying of the Egyptians firstborn sons. This was a harsh thing, causing "a great cry among the Egyptians that has never been heard before." It is unspeakably sad, and yet it was God's justice at work. We must try to understand, as best we can, what the deeper meaning was.
